OEM & Private Label Leather Goods Manufacturing

A comprehensive guide to how our OEM and private label process works — from initial enquiry to export shipment. This page covers what we need from buyers, how specifications are managed, sampling procedures, bulk production planning, quality control, branding options, packaging standards, and export coordination.

What OEM and private label means in practice

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and private label are two models of contract manufacturing where we produce leather goods to the buyer's specification, and the buyer sells them under their own brand name.

OEM manufacturing: We produce products based on models from our catalog (or your design), with your specified materials, colours, and construction details. The product design may be our reference, but the materials, branding, and finishing are tailored to your requirements.

Private label manufacturing: We produce products to your complete specification — your design, your materials, your branding, your packaging. You provide the tech pack or detailed brief, and we execute the manufacturing. The end product carries your brand exclusively.

In both cases, the core process is the same: you define what you want; we confirm what is feasible; we produce a sample for your approval; we manufacture the bulk order against the approved sample; and we pack and ship to your specifications.

What we need from buyers (RFQ checklist)

To provide an accurate quotation quickly, include the following information in your enquiry:

InformationWhy it matters
Product type and model referenceTells us the product category and base specification. Use our model codes or share photos/tech pack.
Target market / destination countryDetermines compliance requirements (REACH for EU, CPSIA for USA), packing specifications, and shipping route.
Quantity range (per model per colour)Affects pricing, MOQ feasibility, and production scheduling. Share your trial order quantity AND expected repeat quantity.
Leather type and finish preferenceFull grain, top grain, corrected grain, nubuck, etc. Affects cost, lead time, and material availability.
Colour requirementsPantone references are ideal for exact matching. Otherwise, reference images work.
Branding method and artworkEmboss, deboss, foil stamp, printed label, laser engraving. Provide vector artwork (AI, EPS, PDF) with placement guidance.
Packaging requirementsPolybag, gift box, branded sleeve, barcode labels, hangtags, carton marks. Share your packing standard if you have one.
Incoterm preferenceFOB, CIF, or DDP. Affects the quoted price and who handles freight and insurance.
Timeline requirementsWhen do you need the goods? This helps us confirm whether the timeline is achievable.

The more detail you provide upfront, the faster and more accurate our quotation will be. Vague enquiries result in broad price ranges; specific enquiries get specific pricing.

The OEM / private label workflow (step by step)

  1. Enquiry review and feasibility confirmation (1–2 business days)

We review your specification, check material availability with our tannery sources, assess production capacity for the requested timeline, and confirm whether the order is feasible as specified. If any modifications would improve the product or reduce cost without compromising quality, we suggest them.

  2. Quotation (1–3 business days)

We provide a per-unit price based on the confirmed specification and quantity range. The quotation includes: unit price (leather + construction + branding + inner packing), sample cost, estimated lead time, payment terms, and Incoterm. Packaging costs (gift boxes, branded sleeves) are quoted separately if applicable.

  3. Sample development (7–14 days)

Upon sample order confirmation and advance payment, we procure materials and produce the sample. The sample is made using production-grade materials and construction methods — not a quick mockup. You receive the physical sample via courier (DHL/FedEx, 3–5 days) and evaluate: leather quality, colour accuracy, dimensions, stitching, edge finishing, branding placement, and overall construction.

Revisions are normal. Most orders go through 1–2 revision rounds. Revision samples are produced within 5–7 days. Once you approve the final sample, it becomes the production reference — the standard against which every bulk unit is measured.

  4. Bulk order confirmation and material procurement (3–7 days)

Upon order confirmation and advance payment, we procure leather and hardware from our approved sources. For standard materials, procurement takes 3–5 days. For custom colours or specialty materials, allow 7–10 days. Material procurement is the most common bottleneck for lead times, which is why we confirm availability during the quotation stage.

  5. Bulk production (2–4 weeks depending on quantity)

Production follows a defined sequence: leather cutting → component preparation → stitching and assembly → edge finishing → branding application → hardware installation → quality inspection → packing. In-process checks are conducted at each stage against the approved sample.

  6. Final inspection and pre-shipment approval (2–3 days)

After production is complete, a final quality inspection is conducted using AQL-based sampling. Representative photographs of finished units are shared with you for review and approval before packing begins. If any units fail inspection, they are set aside and replaced.

  7. Packing and shipment coordination (3–5 days)

Products are packed per your instructions. Export documentation is prepared. Freight is booked (your forwarder or our logistics partners). Goods are delivered to Kolkata port (sea freight) or airport (air freight). Tracking information and document set are shared once the shipment departs.

Typical total timeline (enquiry to shipment): 6–10 weeks for first orders including sampling. 4–6 weeks for repeat orders where the sample is already approved.

Quality control — what we check and how

Inspection stages

  • Incoming material inspection: Leather checked for defects, colour consistency, and thickness. Hardware (zips, snaps, buckles) tested for function and finish. Lining materials checked for colour and quality.
  • Cutting inspection: Cut pieces checked against patterns for dimensional accuracy and grain orientation.
  • In-process inspection: Stitching alignment, edge finishing quality, branding placement accuracy, and component assembly reviewed during production.
  • Final inspection (AQL-based): Finished products inspected using AQL 2.5 (standard) or AQL 1.5 (tighter). Inspection covers: cosmetic defects, functionality (zips, snaps, card slot fit), dimensional accuracy, branding quality, and colour consistency.
  • Pre-shipment photography: Representative units from the batch are photographed and shared with the buyer for visual approval before packing.

Defect classification

  • Critical defects: Product is non-functional or poses safety risk. Zero tolerance. Examples: broken zip, detached component, sharp hardware edge.
  • Major defects: Product has visible quality issues that affect usability or appearance. Examples: misaligned stitching, wrong colour, incorrect branding placement, dimensional error beyond tolerance.
  • Minor defects: Small cosmetic issues that do not affect function or are unlikely to be noticed by the end consumer. Examples: slight thread tail, minor colour variation within acceptable range, small surface mark.

Packaging specifications

Individual product packing

  • Tissue paper wrapping → sealed polybag (moisture protection)
  • Optional: gift box (magnetic closure, rigid box, kraft box), branded sleeve, drawstring pouch
  • Barcode labels (UPC, EAN, FNSKU for Amazon FBA) applied as per buyer specification
  • Hangtags, care labels, and swing tags attached per specification

Carton packing

  • Inner cartons: 10–25 pieces per inner carton (depends on product size)
  • Outer shipping cartons: 5-ply corrugated board (sea freight), 3-ply (air freight samples)
  • Carton marks: buyer's shipping mark, PO number, carton number, gross/net weight, dimensions, "Made in India"
  • Silica gel sachets placed inside cartons for moisture protection during transit

Palletisation (for FCL shipments)

Cartons palletised on ISPM-15 compliant wooden pallets. Stretch-wrapped for container loading stability. Pallet dimensions and stacking patterns confirmed during the packing plan stage.

Tech pack guidance for custom products

If you are developing a custom product (not selecting from our catalog), a tech pack is the most efficient way to communicate your design specification. A tech pack should include:

  • Front and back views: Scaled drawings or photos showing the product from all sides
  • Dimensions: Overall width, height, and depth. Internal pocket dimensions and card slot widths if applicable.
  • Material specification: Leather type, finish, thickness, and colour (Pantone reference preferred)
  • Construction notes: Stitching type, stitch density, edge finishing method, lining material
  • Hardware details: Zip type and length, snap type, buckle style, closure mechanism
  • Branding placement: Logo position, size, and application method (deboss, foil stamp, etc.)
  • Packaging specification: Individual packing method, box type, label placement

If you do not have a tech pack, you can provide reference photos with annotated notes, and we will create a specification document for your review and approval. The key is to define every detail before sampling begins — ambiguity at the specification stage leads to revisions and delays during production.

MOQ, pricing, and payment — practical details

MOQ structure

Order typeMOQ per design per colourTypical price range (USD)
Standard catalog model50–100 unitsConfirmed per specification
Custom design (buyer's spec)100–200 unitsHigher than catalog (development cost factor)
Corporate gift (simple branding)50 unitsConfirmed per specification
Large program (1000+ units)Flexible — volume pricing appliesBest per-unit pricing

MOQ is set per design per colour — not per total order. For example, if you order MW-01 in black (100 units) and MW-01 in brown (100 units), that is two SKUs, each meeting the 100-unit MOQ. Total order is 200 units.

Pricing factors

Per-unit pricing depends on: leather type and grade (full-grain costs more than corrected-grain), product complexity (more card slots, more compartments, more hardware = higher cost), branding method (foil stamp costs more than blind deboss), packaging (gift box costs more than polybag), and quantity (higher volume = lower per-unit cost). We provide itemized quotations so you can see how each element affects the price.

Payment terms

  • New buyers: 50% advance + 50% before shipment (after pre-shipment photo approval)
  • Established buyers: 30% advance + 70% against documents
  • Large orders (USD 10,000+): Irrevocable Letter of Credit at sight
  • Payment method: Wire transfer (TT) to our Indian bank account

Frequently asked OEM questions

Can I mix models in one order?
Yes. You can order multiple models in a single shipment. Each model must meet the per-SKU MOQ independently. Mixed orders are consolidated into a single shipment to reduce freight costs.
How long does sampling take?
Typically 7–14 days from sample order confirmation. Simple products (card holders) are faster; complex products (bags with multiple compartments) take longer. Sample courier delivery adds 3–5 days.
What if I do not like the sample?
Revisions are normal. Share specific feedback (what needs to change — dimensions, colour, stitching, branding position), and we produce a revised sample within 5–7 days. Most orders go through 1–2 revision rounds.
Do you keep my designs confidential?
Yes. Custom designs developed for a specific buyer are not shared with other buyers or used in our catalog without written permission. We can sign an NDA if required.
Can you source specific materials I have seen elsewhere?
If you have a reference for a specific leather type, finish, or colour, share it and we will check availability from our tannery network. If the exact material is not available locally, we can suggest close alternatives. We do not import leather from other countries for individual orders.
What happens if there is a quality problem with the delivered goods?
We have a returns and quality assurance policy. Manufacturing defects reported within 15 days of delivery are investigated and resolved — typically through replacement production for the defective units in the next order cycle.
